They keep breaking!

My nails just keep getting shorter and shorter...
I can't seem to keep them very long at all, and it's driving me nuts!! Well, I will make do with what I have!!
(while on the subject of make do, I was very confused it if was due or do. I seriously had to look it up! Then I almost left it at dew. ENDORSE PEPSI!)

Anyway, back to nails...please to ignore the dry cuticles, I forgot lotion!!

I started with a lovely, slimming neutral color. Essie San Tropez is so pretty!!

Stamped on some what I originally thought was bamboo...It's not. Looks kinda like crackle. Eh. China Glaze Street Chic.

Topped it all off with some China Glaze Fast Track!!! This pic looks great with the top on, but irl, you could hardly see the stamping depending on light.

Vertical lines make you look taller! =D

Have you tried changing to a strengthening base coat? Or if you have, a different brand? When I first got into nail art last fall, I picked up Miracle Cure by Sally Hansen. It felt like it was helping, because my nails were growing a bit past the end of my fingers before breaking off, when before they'd always been verrry nubbin, and most of the peeling stopped, but I've since realized it was just the fact that my nails are always polished now that helped. When I ran out of that base coat, I picked up a bottle of a Nail Life strengthener at Sally Beauty. BIG MISTAKE. Not that I haven't heard good things about that one from other people, but every person has different body chemistry! Within weeks my nails were not only splitting and peeling again like they used to before, they were peeling all the way down my nail, not just on the tips. I asked around different polish groups for recommendations, and next paycheck I bought Haken Nail Magic Nail Hardener. I've only had three nail breaks since then, *months* later (and all three of those breaks were where the peeling damage from farther down my nails grew out past the nail bed and then broke.) Right now, my nails are longer than they've ever been in my *life*.

Here's my last manicure before I switched to Haken:

And here's my nails today:

The middle finger on my right hand is the only one that's short, and it's a slight bit longer than it was back in the Dalmatian mani. It broke about a month ago, but that was the last of the pre-existing damage. My nails would probably be a little longer, even, if I let them, but any longer and the nails start curling a bit and I don't like the way they look. :)

While I'm not saying everybody needs to use Haken, what I *am* saying is try different strengthening base coats until you find the one that works for you! I am not one of those people who is careful about their nails - my hands are tools, and if I don't use them, then they're worthless. The only time I'm careful about using my nails is when my polish is still wet! ^_^ I use my nails to pry apart stuck legos for my son, to type on my keyboard all day at work (and isn't that new! I have to type with my fingernails on the home and bottom rows of the keyboard, they're that long!) to open envelopes and occasionally pry up stubborn staples. Strengthening base coat really *does* work, just find the one that works with your chemistry!
